ABOUT WE ARE ROBOTS

It all started with...

...the gifting of a second hand toy robot to a young child. Nearly 25 years later and one robot has become.. probably too many robots.

We Are Robots (WAR) was created out of a love for mecha, video games, animé, classic sci-fi films and a lack of fan art clothing available in Australia.

"It's easy to find fan art and clothing online, but much harder to find something I want to wear."

With over a decade of experience in the design and clothing industry WAR set out with a mission to create fan art clothing with modern fashion trends and great design, which we call Otaku Streetwear. We design the clothing we wish we could buy.

While most of WAR's designs are done in-house we are also looking to partner with both local Australian and international artists who would like to share their art with more fans. If you are an artist and would like to partner with WAR, drop us a line via our contact page and we will get in touch.

With a background in design and teamwear apparel WAR also has the skills and know how to kit out local clubs, eSports teams and businesses. With minimum orders as low as 10 pieces we can get your team looking the part.

In addition to clothing, We Are Robots is also creating one-off commissioned custom controllers. Read more or check out the gallery of past work on the custom controllers page.

As well as building strong local connections we also take international trade, ethics and labour rights very seriously which is why we make a special effort to try and manufacture through companies and factories who have well practiced and regulated labour policies. We believe we all play a part in improving global working conditions. "Every time we open our wallets we are voting on the kind of world we want to live in". If you would like to know more just drop us an email via the contact page

We hope you like what WAR is creating and we look forward to releasing more designs and working with a range of artists and industry personalities over the coming years. WAR out!

The Process

Every controller starts out from scratch as a digital concept created to meet the customers requirements. Once the design is finalised production on the order commences.

The process to create a WAR custom controller can be relatively time consuming and starts with and initial process of dismantling, sanding, washing, drying and priming of the shell and buttons before the painting is ready to start. This process is essential to guarantee a great finish that is hard wearing.

After the initial prep work the process can be relatively simple or extremely complex depending on the job. Some jobs can be completed in as little as a week, where as other complex jobs involving textures, special paint or 3D detail can take several months due to the amount of work and curing times of paints and materials. Approximate completion time will be advised during the design stage.

We Are Robots uses a premium, Australian made lacquer paint from The Scale Model Supply (SMS) which is very durable with an amazing finish for custom controllers. Their range includes some special effects paints including chameleon, crystal, prismatic and even UV reactive paints. Speak to us about using these in a custom order for something totally unique.

Because every WAR order is unique, pricing is based on the amount of work and materials involved. WAR can work to a budget by simplifying the design to suit you, or for those who are happy to spend a bit more WAR can create something that will really grab attention.
